UP High School wins Physics Olympics in USC

Kudos and congratulations to UP High School Cebu for being the OVERALL CHAMPION in the recently concluded Physics Olympics sponsored by the Carolinian Physics Society (PhySoc) in partnership with the University of San Carlos’ Department of Physics, last 9 February 2016. UP High bested 12 other distinguished high schools in Cebu!

Science and Technology Education Center (STEC)​​ wins Inter-Public Elementary Math and Science Quiz Bowl

STEC wins quiz bowl

​The Science and Technology Education Center (STEC) came out the grand champion of the Inter-Public Elementary Math and Science Quiz Bowl last September 23 at the U.P. Cebu ​Arts and Sciences Building ​Conference Hall, organized by the University of the Philippines High School Cebu in celebration of Math & Science Technology Week.

The quiz bowl covered topics in Elementary Mathematics and General Science, revolving around the theme: “Philippines: A Science Nation Innovating for Global Competitiveness” and also in observance of the United Nations’ proclamation of 2015 as the International Year of Light.

The winning team composed of ​Chloe Nicole L. Borja, Lyana Rae L. Espina,​ and​ Reigne Hanneiken C. Gaite, with their coach​es​ Ms. Soledad B. Amado​ and​ Ms. Anita L. Capitan, went home with P​5,000 cash prize, medals, and certificates.

The ​Lahug Elementary School team, composed of ​Rafaela Zyun Canonigo, Jamaica Anel Conde, ​and ​James River Philip Yuson with their coach Ms. ​Madelin B. Tinapay, came in second and was awarded P​3,000​, medals, and certificates​.

Third-place winner was the team from ​Minglanilla Special Science Elementary School, composed of ​​Lindsay Marie Manlegro, Maxell Milay,​ and​ Bryan Rod Montecillo with their coach Mr. ​Lornell Ramos, which was rewarded with P​2,000​, medals, and certificates​.

The contest drew in 2​7 teams of grade six pupils from different public elementary schools in Cebu​, 16 schools from Cebu City, 6 schools from Lapu-Lapu City, 2 from Talisay City, and 1 school each from Carcar, Toledo, and Minglanilla.

The quiz bowl was sponsored by Ms Theresa Yee, UP High School Alumna of Class 2007.
