Grade 10 student shines in international essay writing contest

Congratulations to Chariz Vanzuela, Grade 10, for her entry in the 9th Art Writer Award for High School Students hosted by the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Her essay, “To Lasso the Sun” is one of the 17 essays to receive the Winning Entries Award from among 147 entries submitted from 24 countries.

In her essay, Vanzuela reminisced on her ‘exhilarating and unforgettable’ first art class. She wrote, “The process of creating art is something that we all should get to experience at least once in our lives.”

There were two grand prize winners, seven awards for excellence, and 17 winning entries. The grand prize winners were from Singapore and India. Two entries from the Philippine Science High School of the Caraga Region and one from Ernesto Rondon High School, Quezon City, received the Award for Excellence. Another entry from the Philippine Science High School, Caraga, also received the Winning Entries Award.

Vanzuela was invited by her summer school English teacher to join the competition. She wrote the essay in two weeks.

The Art Writer Award is a contest on art. It allows students to think and write about art. The students submitted 1000-word-English essays revolving around the themes — Japanese Art, Creative experience, and Art and Life 2020. The announcement of the awards was posted online on March 28, 2021.

UP High Cebu wins 3rd in National ICT Tourney

Kudos and congratulations to Glendale Boholano, representing UP High School Cebu, for winning 3rd place in the Grand National Finals of the Fifth CAL Battle of the ICT Wizards, sponsored by Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) Corporation, last 12 February 2016 in Manila.

Glendale won in the High School Graphic Design Using Adobe Photoshop category. Previously, she won 1st Place in the Regionals of the CAL Battle of the ICT Wizards last 29 January 2016, earning her a place in the grand finals.

Ms. Boholano was accompanied by Prof. Jeraline Gumalal and coached by Prof. Hazel Trapero.

UP High School wins Physics Olympics in USC

Kudos and congratulations to UP High School Cebu for being the OVERALL CHAMPION in the recently concluded Physics Olympics sponsored by the Carolinian Physics Society (PhySoc) in partnership with the University of San Carlos’ Department of Physics, last 9 February 2016. UP High bested 12 other distinguished high schools in Cebu!

UP High School Cebu tops Bangga sa Kinaadman 2012

Among 120+ students and 20+ high schools in Cebu City, the University of the Philippines High School Cebu took first place in the inter-school Bangga sa Kinaadman (Battle of the Brains) 2012 held on July 27 at the Department of Education (DepEd) Conference Hall.

Ain Khera L. Ycong (right in photo) and Jhelle C. Raboya (left in photo), both from IV-Palma, took first and third place, respectively.

The competition is a yearly activity of the Cebu City Youth Development Commission (CCYDC) for the secondary and tertiary schools in Cebu City which quizzed every school representative on general information and current events.
